Should a dental emergency occur, we make every effort to see and care for you as soon as possible.
Education & Prevention
As a practice, we are true believers that preventive care and education are the keys to optimal dental health. We strive to provide “dental health care” vs. “disease care”. That’s why we focus on thorough exams – checking the overall health of your teeth and gums, performing oral cancer exams, and taking x-rays when necessary.
The exams are conducted by the attending dentist. Operating 5X telescopes are used by the dentist to examine your mouth in addition to high resolution cameras in each operatory. The exam is not a pass by where the dentist comes in and passes by the hygienist looks at the films or monitor, then converses and leaves, but a thorough exam conducted by the dentist. Every patient is given a hands on demonstration with a mouth model on how to floss and brush properly.
The practice philosophy at this office is proactive verses reactive in treatment planning. We don't watch something get worse before deciding to intervene. Teeth have a limited ability to deal with stress. Treating a tooth before you have a problem is the issue. Eliminating leaking fillings, controlling clenching and grinding trauma to the teeth and containing fractures is imperative to reduce tooth stress. This brings to a point of attention to the thorough examination. A lot of the tooth problems can only be seen under magnification during a thorough examination. A tooth has a non expandable chamber called a pulp chamber. Very similar to your head. The pulp chamber has a nerve center just like your brain in your skull. The head has the brain inside that is supplied with a very very large blood flow. The blood can bring in resources to make repairs to deal with mild to moderate trauma and bacterial infections. You get a head ache when something is not right. The tooth on the other hand has a microscopic supply of blood. It is limited in the ability to supply resources to make repairs because of trauma or respond to bacterial infections. In fact, the blood flow to the tooth is so low that the tooth temperature is not maintained or altered by the blood flow. The tooth temperature is maintained by the heat from the tongue, lips and cheek. Infections and trauma cause swelling and inflammation that will alter the blood flow through the tooth. The fluid dynamics of tooth blood flow are magnified because the blood vessels are encased in a non-expandable chamber. When you have a tooth ache it is much bigger than you think. It is a strong indication that you should find out why it is hurting. The goal in being proactive is to reduce the stress to the tooth and decrease the need for root canal treatment.
We also know that routine cleanings, flossing, sealants, and fluoride are all helpful in preventing dental disease. Not only are we focused on the beauty of your smile, we’re also concerned about your health. A review of your medical history can help us stay informed of your overall health, any new medications, and any illnesses that may impact your dental health.
Uncompromising Safety
Infection control in our office is also very important to us. To protect our patients and ourselves, we strictly maintain sterilization and cross contamination processes using standards recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). In 2005 this practice was one of the first dental practices in the state of New York to employ the first OSHA approved sterilization center (SteriCenter) by Triangle. This office has employed a OSHA approved safety company to inspect the office and train the staff annually.
